THE PERFECT TIME TO EXPERIMENT

One of the rocketing food trends of the new decade that isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, is plant-based eating. Whether you’re an impassioned carnivore or not, it’s certainly worth some serious consideration. Even if you have no interest in becoming a vegan, vegetarian, or pescatarian, an all-new flexitarian lifestyle might just suit you perfectly!

The fundamentals of this concept are to eat proportionately more vegetables than animal proteins. So whether you include smaller quantities of meat in your daily diet or only eat it once a week, it’s non-judgmentally up to you!

Health Facts

Research shows that extreme consumption of meat puts you at risk of heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a myriad of other unpleasant medical complications. The uptick in stressful living also creates a greater need to look more closely at what we put into our bodies.

While cutting down on or eliminating meat is heading in a healthier direction, it’s important to know that there is such a thing as “vegan junk food”, so please note that a continual french fry frenzy is not a viable solution!

Going vegan does not mean omitting protein from one’s diet as it is one of the fundamental building blocks in developing and maintaining bone and muscle health. Fortunately, there’s a wealth of convenient “green protein” options out there including nuts, seeds, tofu, chickpeas, quinoa, most legumes, mushrooms, artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, sprouts, corn, potatoes, peppers, and spinach.

Vegging Out

While it may seem daunting to begin with, making the transition to consuming more plant-based food is easier than you think and there is a multitude of truly delicious recipes available out there that might make you forget about meat entirely. Some of our favorites include cauliflower roasts, melanzane alla parmigiana, lentil bobotie, mushroom ragout, beetroot, butternut & olive salad, and chili bean nachos. You really can’t go wrong with any of those!
